Privacy Policy
Effective October 6, 2026
ThoughtRot is a study app for the SAT and ACT. It keeps almost everything on your phone, has no accounts, and never sells or shares your data for advertising.
What stays on your phone
- Your answers, scores, settings, streaks and Diagnostics.
- The apps you choose to hold shut. iOS gives ThoughtRot these as private tokens through Apple's Screen Time (Family Controls) framework; ThoughtRot cannot read which apps they are, and this data never leaves your device.
Deleting the app deletes this data.
What is sent, and why
Anonymous usage data. Events such as which features are used and when a question is reported as wrong, sent through TelemetryDeck with a random install ID that is not linked to you. No names, no email, no free text. You can turn this off in Settings → Privacy → "Share anonymous usage data."
The AI tutor (ThoughtRotBot), only if you use it. The app asks before your first message. What you type, and the question you are looking at, are sent through our server to Anthropic, which generates the reply. Your random install ID and, for premium users, Apple's proof of purchase are sent so the server can apply message limits. We do not store your conversations. Anthropic handles the messages under its own privacy policy.
Test dates. The app downloads a public list of upcoming test dates. Nothing about you is sent.
Feedback you choose to send. If you write to us from the app, it opens your own mail app. We receive only what you send.
Purchases. Apple handles all payments. We never see your payment details.
What we never do
- Sell your data, or share it with advertisers or data brokers.
- Track you across other apps or websites.
- Share any Screen Time data with anyone.
Students under 13
ThoughtRot is made for students preparing for the SAT and ACT. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
Changes
If this policy changes, we will update this page and its effective date.
